Literacy*AmeriCorps Pittsburgh is accepting proposals for community organizations to host full-time AmeriCorps members from September 2010 to August 2011. Please contact MaryRose Walko at mwalko@gplc.org to request an application. Service site applications must be submitted by March 25, 2010.
Literacy*AmeriCorps Pittsburgh members are placed at local nonprofit organizations. Members provide additional programmatic support by offering more classes, increasing access to tutoring, or by extending an existing literacy program. The member position must work toward at least one of the Literacy*AmeriCorps performance measures relating to adult or children’s literacy.
Service sites provide training, daily supervision, and at least 35 hours of meaningful service per week for the member. Sites are also required to provide a match fee per Literacy*AmeriCorps member.
Literacy*AmeriCorps service sites are chosen through an application process each spring. The program coordinator is available to meet with prospective service sites to answer questions about the process and experience of hosting an AmeriCorps member.
