Literacy*AmeriCorps - National Program
Literacy*AmeriCorps is a national service program that mobilizes enthusiastic citizens to “get things done” and make positive changes in communities throughout the country. Literacy*AmeriCorps is just one of thousands of national service programs funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency established in 1993 to engage Americans of all ages and backgrounds in community service. It supports a range of national and community service programs, providing opportunities for participants to serve full-time and part-time as individuals or as a part of a team. Literacy*AmeriCorps is administered by Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council, a national leader in adult education and family literacy. Local organizations manage the program in each city. GPLC oversees and monitors each local program.

Literacy*AmeriCorps members tutor adult learners in basic skills and English as a Second Language, provide family literacy programs to children and parents, and recruit and support community volunteers. Members also participate in community service projects, personal and professional development trainings, and teambuilding activities.
