Literacy*AmeriCorps
AmeriCorps is a national service program that mobilizes volunteers to take action in their communities. Literacy*AmeriCorps volunteers, or “members,” directly serve adults, families, and children in several states by helping them reach their educational goals. Members of Compass AmeriCorps, a PennSERVE program, provide wrap-around social services support to newly resettled refugees in Pittsburgh. Members of both corps also recruit community volunteers, participate in service projects, and help strengthen local literacy and refugee resettlement organizations.
AmeriCorps members improve their communities while receiving many benefits themselves, such as a modest living allowance, money for school, training and professional development, and a sense of accomplishment.
Your participation in either of these programs can be a life-changing experience. Please read on to learn more.
